What CruiseChattr actually is
Messaging that works on a ship when nothing else does, by passing messages phone to phone.
A cruise ship is a floating city made of steel, and steel is very good at stopping radio waves. You can buy the best connectivity package aboard and still find dead spots — interior cabins, stairwells, lift lobbies, the corridor outside the engine casing. Step off the ship onto a tender or a beach and you are past the reach of anything you bought.
CruiseChattr works differently. It uses Bluetooth Low Energy, the same short-range radio your headphones and your watch already use, and passes messages from phone to phone. If the person you are writing to is nearby, their phone gets it directly. If they are not, the message is carried by other phones running the app until it reaches them.
There is no internet connection involved, no ship WiFi, and no cellular signal. That is the whole idea.
It is not a replacement for a WiFi package. If you want to video call, stream, or send photos to people at home, buy the package. CruiseChattr is for the messages that matter when you are somewhere a signal will not go — where are you, meet us at the pool, we are getting off at the next stop.
Did that answer it?
If not, tell us what is still wrong — that is how this page gets better.
