CruiseChattr ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the CruiseChattr mobile application (the "App") and our website at cruisechattr.com (the "Website"). Together, these are referred to as the "Service."

By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

Account Information

When you create a CruiseChattr account, we collect the following information:

• Your display name (chosen by you; does not need to be your real name)
• Email address (used for account recovery and important service notifications)
• An optional profile photo
• Your selected cruise line, ship, and sailing dates

Message Data

How a message is protected depends on the path it takes:

• Phone to phone over the Bluetooth mesh: encrypted on your device before it is sent, using keys held only by you and the recipient. Relay phones forward sealed packets they cannot open, and CruiseChattr never receives or stores the content of these messages.
• Family group relay over the internet: sealed with a key that only the members of the group hold. Our servers carry the sealed copy and cannot read it.
• Messages typed into the web portals (cruisechattr.com/family, /crew and /passenger): a web browser holds no mesh keys, so these messages reach our servers readable and are stored there until they are delivered, plus a short retention period. They are protected in transit by HTTPS and at rest by access controls, but they are not end-to-end encrypted. Do not use the portals for anything you would not want us to be able to see.

Bluetooth and Device Data

To enable mesh networking, the App uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). We collect the following technical data:

• A randomly generated device identifier (not your hardware ID or IMEI)
• Bluetooth signal strength data for routing optimization
• Message delivery metadata (timestamps, hop counts) — not message content
• App version and operating system version for compatibility purposes

We do not collect your precise location, contacts, photos, browsing history, or any data from other apps on your device.

Usage Analytics

We collect anonymized, aggregated usage data to improve the Service. This may include:

• App open/close events
• Feature usage patterns (e.g., which screens you visit most)
• Crash reports and error logs
• Mesh network performance metrics (aggregate, not per-user)

This data is fully anonymized and cannot be used to identify individual users.

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, maintain, and improve the Service
• Connect you with other passengers on the same cruise sailing
• Facilitate group messaging between family members and sailing companions
• Optimize Bluetooth mesh routing for faster message delivery
• Send you important service notifications (e.g., app updates, security alerts)
• Respond to your support requests
• Detect and prevent abuse or violations of our Terms of Service

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. We may share limited information only in the following circumstances:

• Service Providers: We may share anonymized technical data with service providers who help us operate the Service (e.g., cloud hosting, analytics). These providers are contractually obligated to protect your data.
• Legal Requirements: We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or governmental regulation, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.
• Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred to the acquiring entity. We will notify you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

We take data security seriously and implement industry-standard measures to protect your information:

• End-to-end encryption for messages carried phone to phone over the mesh (see Message Data for the web-portal exception)
• Encrypted data storage on your device
• Secure HTTPS connections for all server communications
• Regular security audits and penetration testing
• Minimal data collection — we only collect what is necessary to provide the Service

While we strive to protect your personal information, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security but are committed to using commercially reasonable efforts to protect your data.

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal information from our servers within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

Messages are stored only on your device and the devices of your conversation participants. We do not maintain server-side copies of your messages. When you delete a message on your device, it is permanently removed from your device.

Anonymized analytics data may be retained indefinitely for the purpose of improving the Service.

CruiseChattr is intended for use by individuals of all ages within family groups. Children under 13 may use the App under the supervision of a parent or guardian who has created the family group.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental consent. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without verification of parental consent, we will take steps to delete that information promptly.

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate personal information
• Request deletion of your personal information
• Object to or restrict the processing of your personal information
• Request portability of your personal information
• Withdraw consent at any time (where processing is based on consent)

The Service may contain links to third-party websites or services (e.g., cruise line websites, CruiseMapper.com). We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of these third-party services. We encourage you to read their privacy policies before providing them with any personal information.

Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence. These countries may have data protection laws that differ from the laws of your country. We ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new Privacy Policy within the App and on the Website, and by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.

Your continued use of the Service after any changes to this Privacy Policy constitutes your acceptance of those changes.
