What is a sea day, and are they boring?
A sea day is a day the ship does not stop anywhere. You might get one; on a repositioning you might get five in a row.
Whether they are boring is the most reliable argument in cruising. One camp says sea days are the entire point — nothing to organise, nowhere to be, the first genuine rest in a year. The other camp is climbing the walls by eleven.
Here is the practical part either way: sea days are when the ship is fullest. Everyone is aboard at once, so the good deck chairs go before breakfast, the buffet is a scrum at one, and the spa and speciality restaurants book out. If you want any of those on a sea day, move early.
If you know you hate them, itineraries exist with a port nearly every day. If you love them, repositioning cruises are mostly sea days and are usually the cheapest weeks on the water.
