How CruiseChattr works aboard — and where it doesn't
Your phone talks to other phones over Bluetooth, and your message hops between them until it reaches the person you are writing to. No ship wifi involved.
Fast: they are within about thirty metres — same venue, deck above. Seconds.
Slower: further than that, and your message waits for somebody to carry it. A busy pool deck at two in the afternoon moves things quickly. A quiet corridor at three in the morning does not.
The honest limitation: this works better the more people aboard are running it. Ten users on a six thousand passenger ship is not a mesh, it is ten phones. That is the real constraint, and no amount of engineering gets around it.
One thing worth knowing about privacy. Messages sent from the app are sealed on your device — the phones relaying them carry a packet they cannot open, and neither can we. Messages typed into the web portal are the exception, because a browser has no key to seal them with, so those reach our server readable. If it is private, send it from the app.
Setup questions go here. We read them.
