What actually happens at muster drill?

It is the safety briefing, it is compulsory, and it is nothing like the thing people dread.
On most lines now you watch the safety video on your phone or the cabin TV, then walk to your muster station so a crew member can scan your card. Five minutes, if that. Your station is on your cabin door and on the card itself.
The old version — everyone on deck in a lifejacket, standing in the heat for half an hour while they read out names — has largely gone.
You cannot skip it. They will find you, they will announce your cabin number, and the ship does not sail until everybody is ticked off.
Lines still do it differently. If yours ran it another way, say which line — that is genuinely useful to whoever sails it next month.
